Title: Extension and Pressure Loading Applied Simultaneously or in a Row ?
Post by: osman on May 24, 2017, 09:29:59 AM
Dear FEAP Users,

I would like to  simulate  a quarter of a cylinder subjected to extension and internal pressure with the following properties

1) Extension is essentially a displacement driven loading along z-direction
2) Internal pressure is defined on pressure elements in terms of follower load ( see Material 4 in the input file)

My question is how can I achieve the following two cases
1) Extension and pressure applied simultaneously
2) Extension followed by pressure

I have defined two proportional loads, i.e. prop,,1 and prop,,2 but it seems that there is no indication which type of loading is associated with which prop.

I have attached the input file for convenience.

I appreciate your help.

Thank you,

Osman Gültekin

You need to associate your pressure elements with the desired proportional load.  See section 6.10 of the manual where LOAD p prop-ld can be used as one of the material cards.  Similarly for the displacement boundary conditions you can tag the end nodes with the desired proportional load; see for example EPROportional in the manual.

Also read about LOAD groups if you are using ver 8.4

Thank you Prof. Govindjee and Taylor.

I had overlooked the proportional loading number  prop-ld defined for follower loads. Together with EPROP command  for displacement driven loading  the simulation works  well now.
