contact output strange
« on: August 12, 2021, 12:56:06 PM »
Hi everyone,

maybe i have explained too much in my last post. Here i post it again and want to introduce in a simpler way.

You can put ISpan, mesh.dat, boun, dat and disp.dat in the same folder and just run inputfile ISpan. You will get output as shown in output.png. The mesh at the time 0 is as shown in intial.png.

My question is why the nodes of upper right corner have negative displacement in y direction. I think, the right result should be positive.

Best regards

This is an elastic block.  If you apply a load above the centerline you are basically applying a moment to the block.  Which way will it deform then?

Dear Prof. R.L. Taylor,

thanks a lot for your reply.

I modified the right body to make its left below corner smooth as shown in initial.png. Then in the simulation the upper right corner of the left body has a positive displacement in y-direction as shown in output.png. The output is satisfied but i still do not why this magic happens?^^

There is a lot of penitration by the tool.  I suspect the mesh is causing the difference,  try refining the mesh near the area. Also use quads if possible, 3 node triangles could be a problem
