Woudn't it be nice to have a wiki for Feap?

How would you propose that would function?

This is actually a good idea. A cool example would be the Python documentation website,

https://docs.python.org/3/

With such kind of FEAP wiki, everybody could contribute, the content will grow gradually. This eventually could be a good companion to the FEAP documentation.

Most of the time users may find the answer to their question on the wiki website before they even ask

I also see advantages for having a wiki next to the forum.

The wiki would mainly serve as a tool to reduce the load of official FEAP maintainers, in terms of keeping the documentation up-to-date and adding new material and application example.
The reason I had the idea was due to the large amount of unorganized material that can be found in the forum. The wiki can be used to organize the user elements, applications and cases.

Wiki is usually for general informations, in my opinion, like wikipedia, or programming languages, or script language like wiki.tcl.tk.
It is not a good idea for FEAP to make a wiki, as it is more specific, based on Fortran, etc. Instead, there is a need to improve the documentation.

I thick there are some valuable sources in the forum that could be documented.
At the beginning, I found a discussion about meshing of a sphere, which is very impressive example, and should be documented!

If you have tried to find some reference examples, probably you will find some good ones here, http://code-aster.org, which is a French FEM program.
I never used it, and I can't compared it with FEAP. But even if the documentation is still questionable, but still there are something that could be useful.

It is finally a question of time, effort, and maybe also research interest.
I wish the best.

1.1 )  "Coder-Aster " still has no own pre-process and no own post-process solver.

1.2 )  If you need adaptive Remeshing (with "SALOME" together), XFEM or Cohesive Elements (Topics about damage, fracture and fatigue (Industry PROJ)),
"Code-Aster"should be a good choice as you don't need to write any codes by yourself (advantage: direct use / develop the subs).

For FEAP Users:
2.1 )  Compare with other FE-SOLVERs, FEAP input format & User elements develop enviroment are very comfortable for users.
2.2 )  BUT AlSO FEAP contains many advanced FE-Technologys, e.g. IGA, FE2 ... They can be a huge help for many Researchers (advantage -> 1.2).
2.3 )  More important: we can get a lot of very useful supports from the FEAP Team & Users in FEAP-Forum!

It seems that there is a way append a Wiki to a SMF forum, but I need to investigate how one can add that modification to the forum.

An interesting example could be "OpenSees"  http://opensees.berkeley.edu/wiki/index.php/Main_Page :P

I have built a version of Mediawiki on the server that hosts the forum.   Hopefully in a week or two I will have a draft 1 ready; I post an update then.

This is great! Would it be possible to let users of the FEAP forum edit FEAP Wiki directly without additional login?

I have created a FEAP wiki site.  It is completely empty right now.  If you would like to obtain an account to help populate the Wiki, please send an email to feap@berkeley.edu with your real name and preferred username.  The site is located at http://feap.berkeley.edu/wiki .
