Prescribed rotation not matched in solution
« on: May 11, 2013, 11:18:43 AM »
Hello,
I have a question on specifying a rotation boundary condition in a 2D frame element. The input data file attached gives a beam fixed at left end and right end fixed in the vertical and horizontal translations but with a rotation boundary condition. The boundary prescribed is pi/2. The solution obtained gives a slope near the fixed end that is far from pi/2. Is this due to the type of element used?
Thanks for your help.

You need to understand the differences between beams with and without shear deformation.  Look at the results you got for the shear force in the last element (STRE,,100 for your 100 element beam).  Now turn off the  shear deformation and look at the results.
